Despina Meimaroglou is invited to give a presentation in the 4th International Conference on Arts and Society, Venice, Italy, 2009. She is featured in a colloquium titled SEARCH: Sites to Examine Art and Regard Culture and Humanity that is exploring ways, diversity, influences, collaborative artistic experiences and supports social activism. Coordinated by American artist Helen Frederick, with Maria Barbosa (Brazil), Juanita Hardy (African-American), Jana Harper (American) and Despina Meimaroglou (Greece) the project begins by initiating actions, leading seminars, and collecting information to spur developmental work with woman through the arts, congregating women who are persevering and making a difference despite the difficult environments in which they live. Presentations to communities of women are planned to extend throughout the Americas, Africa, the Diaspora and Europe, bringing together a core group of ten women who are able to commit five years to the SEARCH project with a willingness to work collaboratively together.
